Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I Solicitation

The U.S. EPA Office of Research and Development invites small business

firms to submit research proposals in response to their 2002 Phase I

solicitation.

 

Completed proposals are due May 24, 2001. The proposed research must directly pertain to EPA's environmental mission and must be responsive to EPA program interests included in the following topic descriptions: Nanomaterials and Clean

Technology, Control and Monitoring of Mobile Source Emissions, Prevention and Control of Air Pollution, Treatment and Monitoring of Drinking Water, Wastewater Treatment and Stormwater Management, Hazardous Waste Management and Site Remediation, Recycling of Municipal and Industrial Solid Waste, and

Monitoring and Measurement Technologies.

 

Under Phase I, the scientific merit and technical feasibility of the proposed concept is investigated. EPA awards firm-fixed-price Phase I contracts of up to $70,000 and the period of performance for these contracts is typically 6 months. Through this phased approach to SBIR funding, EPA can determine whether the research idea, often on

high-risk advanced concepts, is technically feasible, whether the firm can do high-quality research, and whether sufficient progress has been made to justify a larger Phase II effort. The Phase I report also serves as a basis for follow-on commitments. It is anticipated that approximately 40 Phase I awards with a dollar amount of $70,000
